Ham and Cheese Sliders will be your favorite EASY party food using fluffy Hawaiian rolls, deli ham and cheese, and brushed with a dijon mustard glaze. They are hearty little sandwiches that pack a major flavor punch! Hosts and hostesses will love that this recipe makes 12 sliders at a time making feeding a crowd a breeze! There are several ways to prepare these amazing snacks, but my way will show an easy-to-serve technique by tearing the rolls apart prior to baking. The last thing you want is to have someone grab a slider and pull off the meat and cheese from the ones next to it!
Getting creative with this recipe
Ham and Cheese Sliders can be fun to make, and even more fun to experiment with. By simply changing the meat and cheese, you can create your own appetizer masterpiece that guests will be bragging about for years to come. Below are just a few variations for you try:
- Reuben Sliders – Spread mayonnaise on rolls. Place a thin slice of corned beef and Swiss cheese on each half. Add a tablespoon of sauerkraut. Spread top of sauerkraut with Russian dressing. Add top half of roll. Brush sliders with a mix of 1 stick melted butter and 2 teaspoons dried minced onion, then bake. Mmmmmm! These are sensational!
- Apple and Brie Sliders – In a small bowl mix 1 tablespoon maple syrup with 1 cup mayonnaise. Spread mayo mixture over bottom half of roll. Top with thin apple slices (or pears). Add thin brie slices on top of apples. Place top roll over cheese. Brush tops of sliders with a mixture of 1 stick melted butter and 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, then bake. This one is a great option for the holidays.
- BBQ Pork Sliders – Spread mayonnaise on rolls. Place pulled pork on bottom half. Top with cheese slice of choice. Add a tablespoon of cole slaw on top of the cheese. Add a tablespoon of barbecue sauce over cole slaw and add top roll. Mix 1 stick melted butter with 2 teaspoons dried minced onion, 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, and 1/2 teaspoon chili powder. Brush butter mixture over tops of rolls and bake. Add these tangy beauties to your outdoor gatherings!

How to make Ham and Cheese Sliders
These party favorites come together in a flash and use very easy to find ingredients. If for some reason you can’t find minced onions in the spice aisle of your grocery store, you can mince your own using shallots from the fresh produce section. Using fresh onion will not change the final outcome of this recipe.
Equipment Used
- Mixing Bowl – used to make melted butter mixture
- Rectangular Baking Dish – I used an 8.5×11-inch casserole dish and it was the perfect size.
Ingredient List
- Rolls – Hawaiian rolls (package of 12)
- Mayonnaise – only Duke’s mayo in this house, then sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper
- Filling – deli sliced ham and cheese of choice (I used Boar’s Head smoked ham and Swiss cheese)
- Glaze – butter, dijon mustard, poppy seeds, dried minced onion, Worcestershire sauce
Recipe Preparation
- As I said earlier, I like to make individual sliders so they are easier for guest to tear apart. Sometimes knives are not sharp enough to cut all the way through the sandwiches and your lovely tray becomes a huge mess of mangled ham and cheese. Another reason to tear the rolls apart ahead of time is to get that yummy glaze in-between the rolls and down the sides. These are the tastiest sliders ever!!!
- Once the rolls are separated cut in each one in half and smear a light layer of mayonnaise on each bottom half. Sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper.
- Take a piece of sliced ham and fold to fit the roll. Place a ham slice on each half. Fold cheese slices and place them over the ham. Place top half of roll over each slider. Placing the ham and cheese individually over each roll will make these little sandwiches easier to serve. Again, cutting can be very messy.
- In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, dijon mustard, poppy seeds, dried minced onion, and Worcestershire sauce. Using a pastry brush, brush mixture over the top of the rolls.
- Place aluminum foil over the baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted. Remove foil and bake another 5 to 10 minutes, or until tops are golden brown. If Ham and Cheese Sliders cool before your guests arrive, they microwave very well. 😉
