About Me

One of my favorite places to be is in the kitchen. It’s my creative space, my therapeutic space, and the space in which I feel most like me. From the smell of fresh baked salty bread wafting through the house to the taste of delicious crispy treats bursting out of the cookie jar, I find that the kitchen seems to be a joyful space for others in the house, too.

I started this blog to share my love of cooking, and my stash of amazing recipes, with others. I am already getting regular requests for certain favorite meats and sweets, so when the opportunity arose to begin this blogging journey I excitedly accepted!

How My Cooking Journey Began

I am a Georgia native who currently lives in the beautiful state of Connecticut. While I deeply miss my southern roots, I am enjoying all that New England has to offer. As a self-proclaimed foodie, I am taking serious notes on all of the glorious seafood dishes that living in a coastal state has to offer.

What are the things in which I am most passionate? That would include cooking, kayaking, cooking, raising chickens (for eggs only – no pet chickens are harmed in my recipes), and cooking. I think you get the picture.

I began cooking as a young girl, shadowing my parents in the kitchen, and practically hanging from my grandmother’s apron whenever she was creating one of her southern classics (Fried chicken and buttermilk biscuits, anyone?). As I matured, so did my dishes. I studied recipes like they held the answers to the universe. I became well “seasoned” (see what I did there?) and eventually found myself comfortable changing things up with a little of this and a little of that to give a dish my own signature flare. My motto, “Flavor equals savor!”

My cooking obsession led me into part-time catering here and there, and selling my pies (like my Southern Pecan Pie) to local sandwich shops. More recently, I was awarded second place in a “Create a Dynamic Burger” contest with my Eggs-cellent Bistro Burger recipe that can be found in this site under Main Courses. What does it taste like? Imagine a perfectly bundled burger where layers of herbed egg salad, Gouda cheese, bacon & onion jam, crisp bibbed lettuce, and a fried green tomato (Yes, that’s right, Fried Green Tomato!) topped with remoulade sauce come together for a group hug.

If I could give you only one piece of cooking advice it would be, “Cook for fun!” I can honestly say that I do not cook or bake anything that I will not enjoy the effort it requires. I do not take my dishes too seriously, and yes, I have food-fumbled many times in my life. To quote one of the greats:

When you are at home, even if the chicken is a little burnt, what’s the big deal? Relax.

I hope you enjoy the recipes here in Heather Lucille’s Kitchen! Every recipe has been tested by me, personally, and by my ever-patient husband, Darryl, with whom I have been happily married to for 11 years. I absolutely could not be doing any of this without him.

As I have only just begun on this blogging journey, I want to thank you for your patience while I work tirelessly to add fabulous dishes and step-by-step instructions to each recipe!

Hugs and Dishes,
